US, China issue joint climate statement at COP26
US and China issued a joint climate statement at COP26 on November 10th. The US-China Joint Glasgow Declaration pledges enhanced and accelerated climate action by the two nations in the 2020s. As per the Declaration, the two countries intend to cooperate to enhance the measurement of methane emissions and facilitate joint research to reduce these emissions.
 
Poland-Belarus migrant crisis deepens
Hundreds of migrants from the Belarus side are stuck at the Belarus-Poland border in freezing weather - most of the migrants are from the Middle East. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated on November 10th that two long-range Tu-22m3 bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces patrolled the airspace of Belarus.
 
Electric truck maker Rivian’s shares surge
On Wednesday, following its debut on Nasdaq, Rivian Automotive Inc (RIVN.O) shares surged as much as 53%. The Amazon-backed electric vehicle company's valuation went up to over $100 billion after the world's biggest initial public offering (IPO) this year.
 
DOJ alleges Uber violated the Americans with Disabilities Act
On November 10th, the Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a lawsuit against Uber in the District Court for the Northern District of California for overcharging people with disabilities. Uber charges its passengers "wait time" fees starting two minutes after the car arrives at the pickup location and till the car begins its trip. The DOJ is suing Uber for charging wait time fees to passengers with disabilities who require extra time to get into a car.
 
Capitol rioter sentenced to over 3 years in prison
New Jersey gym owner and former MMA fighter who punched a police officer during the Jan 6 insurrection on the Capitol was sentenced Wednesday. The first person to be sentenced for assaulting an officer during the riot, Scott Fairlamb, received three years in prison.
 
Belarus, Russia accused of orchestrating the Polish border crisis
Poland deployed troops to the Poland-Belarus border to prevent hordes of migrants from crossing over. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki accused Belarus of attacking the Polish border by orchestrating the migrant crisis and referred to the situation as a hybrid war that used people as "human shields."
 
General Electric will split into three businesses
General Electric announced Tuesday that the conglomerate will be split into three public companies. The company would be split into units focused on aviation, healthcare, and energy.
 
Probe finds 13 Trump admin officials violated the Hatch Act
On November 9th, the US Office of Special Counsel (OSC) released a report outlining Hatch Act violations made by 13 senior officials of the Trump administration. Implicated officials included Dan Brouillette, Kellyanne Conway, Alyssa Farah, David Friedman, Jared Kushner, Kayleigh McEnany, Mark Meadows, Stephen Miller, Brian Morgenstern, Robert O'Brien, Michael Pompeo, Marc Short, and Chad Wolf.
 
White House condemns Gosar’s animated video of Ocasio-Cortez
Paul Gosar, a Republican lawmaker, posted an anime-style cartoon on Twitter depicting him swinging swords at President Biden and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) and killing her. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for investigations into Gosar's video, tweeting, "Threats of violence against members of Congress and the President of the United States must not be tolerated."
 
Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala announces marriage
Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, 24, announced that she tied the knot in Birmingham, UK. Malala tweeted, "Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families."
