The Facts

Netflix announced Thursday that it added 4.4 million subscribers globally in the last quarter.

The new subscriptions beat Wall Street expectations and led to the company’s first positive subscriber gains report in the past six months.

The company attributed the growth in subscriptions to increased foreign programming investments, including “Ka Casa de Papel,” and more recently, “Squid Game.”

One hundred forty-two million subscribers reportedly watched the Korean TV series Squid Game within its first four weeks on Netflix.

Following a sluggish start to 2021, new Netflix subscriptions surged to over twice the previous quarter.
