FBI searches houses connected to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska

FBI searches houses connected to Deripaska. Searches connected to US sanctions.

Where: New York and Washington, DC

The Facts

On October 19th, the FBI searched two houses in Greenwich Village in NY and on Embassy Row in Washington, DC, connected to Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska.

The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against Deripaska in 2018 due to profiting from “worldwide malign activity.” The sanctions restrict Oleg Deripaska from owning properties in the US.

According to the FBI, officials carried out a law enforcement operation related to a federal investigation based in New York. FBI officials did not provide details regarding the nature of the searches.

Oleg Deripaska’s spokesperson, Larisa Belyaeva, confirmed that the FBI searched the two houses, adding that they belonged to Deripaska’s relatives.

Belyaeva stated, “The searches are being carried out based on two court orders, connected to US sanctions.”
