Jury selection begins for the Ahmaud Arbery murder trial

The Facts

On February 23rd, 2020, Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old black male, was chased and shot dead while jogging in Brunswick, GA.

Three white males – Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael, and William Bryan – have been accused in connection with Arbery’s murder. All 3 have pleaded not guilty.

On October 18th, jury selection began for the Arbery murder trial.

On Monday, Chatham County Superior Court Judge Timothy Walmsley swore in and questioned the first panel of 20 prospective jurors.

Jury duty notices were sent to 1,000 citizens, 12 of whom will be selected to reside as jurors for the trial, along with 4 alternate jurors.

Arbery’s father, Marcus Arbery Sr., stated, “This is 2021, and it’s time for a change. We need to be treated equally and get fair justice as human beings because we’ve been treated wrong so long.”
