Blue origin’s New Shepard will launch on July 20th

Jeff Bezos to go on a space trip. Founder will join Blue Origin’s first human flight.

The Facts

▪ On June 7th, Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos announced that he would go to space onboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard’s first human flight scheduled to launch from West Texas on July 20th.

▪ Bezos wrote on Instagram, “Ever since I was five years old, I’ve dreamed of traveling to space. On July 20th, I will take that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure, with my best friend.”

▪ Bezos’ space company, Blue Origin, announced an online auction on May 5th for a seat on New Shepard’s first flight – so far, the auction has attracted 6,000 participants from 143 countries.

▪ According to a news release dated June 7th on their official website, the three-phased auction concludes on June 12th, and the “bidding is already at $2.8 million.”

▪ The news release states, “The winning bid amount will be donated to Blue Origin’s foundation, Club for the Future, whose mission is to inspire future generations to pursue careers in STEM and to help invent the future of life in space.”
